The Ultimate Summer Bucket List: Clackamas County & the North Willamette Valley

If there’s one thing I’ve learned about summer in this corner of Oregon, it’s this: you’ve got to make the most of it. The wildflowers bloom, the music turns up, and the small-town magic kicks into high gear.

Whether you're a local looking to soak up every sunny weekend or someone new to the area trying to experience it all—this bucket list has you covered.

Walk Through the Swan Island Dahlias – Canby

Every August and September, 40 acres of dazzling dahlias explode into bloom. Bring your camera (or your favorite outfit) and wander the rows at golden hour for that perfect PNW moment.

Dance at a Slice of Summer Concert – Canby

Every Sunday evening in July, Wait Park transforms into a community concert space. It’s free, family-friendly, and filled with blankets, lawn chairs, and lots of happy dancing.

Rock Out at Harefest – Canby

Break out the denim vest and feather your bangs—it’s time for Harefest. This tribute band festival brings the best of the 70s, 80s, and 90s to the Clackamas County Fairgrounds each July. It’s music, nostalgia, beer, and epic people-watching rolled into one.

Hike Behind a Waterfall at Silver Falls – Silverton

The Trail of Ten Falls is iconic for a reason. Choose a shorter route or go all-in for a full-day loop—you’ll pass behind actual waterfalls and see the lush Oregon forest at its most dramatic.

Eat the Famous Chicken Dinner at the St. Paul Rodeo – St. Paul

Only available once a year, this legendary chicken dinner is served up by the St. Paul Catholic Parish during rodeo week. It's juicy, perfectly seasoned, and a big reason some locals come to the rodeo in the first place.

Catch Golden Hour at a Local Vineyard – Aurora & Hubbard

Aurora Vineyards, Whiskey Hill, and Pheasant Run all offer wine tasting with sunset views. It’s the kind of place where time slows down and conversation flows—no filter needed.

Get Ice Cream from the Butteville Store – Near Champoeg

After a trail walk or picnic at Champoeg State Heritage Area, take the short trip to the Butteville Store. It’s charming, historic, and their ice cream cones hit different on a hot day.

Make It Your Summer to Remember

The beauty of this list? You don’t have to go far—or spend a fortune—to make unforgettable summer memories. These experiences are right here in the communities I serve and love.

And if you’re dreaming of living near this kind of magic year-round, I’d love to help you find your place.
