A Day in the Life
A Day In the Life... I am really REALLY lucky to work in a profession where I have the opportunity to control my time and schedule. As a mom with a growing business, two kids, a house, a husband, two dogs, and housework that *just* never seems to be completely done (and we ALL pitch in!), time is a precious commodity. That means that my kids are often along for the ride...for errands, photo appointments, picking up signs, and once in a while, when there's nothing I can do about it, they might have to be my showing assistants. I like to think that in these moments where they are around when I am working they have the opportunity to witness that if you want something, you have to make it a reality for yourself. Unless you're ridiculously lucky, what you want won't just "happen" without the effort to make it happen. It's more than just working to get what you want, too. It's an appreciation for the inner workings of a business and what it takes to stay in business. Keeping the proverbial lights on, handling challenges, and sometimes picking yourself up off the floor. Last week, with a little bribe of Starbucks drinks and a drive through the University of Oregon campus, I convinced my son to be my marketing assistant for a photo shoot day for an upcoming listing in Eugene. On the first day of Spring Break! It was the best date with my kid. One on one time, silly mom jokes (I'm honing my craft), and the opportunity for more than just quality time. I really have the best job in the world.

Keeping it Real (Estate): More Than Just A Phone Call
Being in the real estate business I spend a LOT of time on the phone. Some days, it's hours of calling and following up with people. I wonder if I'll leave my desk and find my phone has permanently become affixed to my ear, so I'm thankful for AirPods. It's hard to physically sit at a desk and call my list of people every day. However, I have learned over time that there are few things more interesting than talking to people. Often these folks I call have no idea who I am, so I get a peek into where they're at in their lives. Through these phone call connections I have the opportunity to speak with people who are in the midst of life changes, and therefore the idea of where "home" will be enters the equation. Events that range from the heavy to the aspirational: loss, growth, new babies, career changes, desire for something more, retirement, following family members...from all over the country. It's really a beautiful thing. How amazing that a home or property can be so intertwined into the cycle of life and the stories people write about who they are. A home is rarely just a place, is it? I'm Jennifer Schurter, and I am a Realtor in the Greater Portland, Oregon Metro area. I help great people like you invest in and manage their real estate investment portfolios.
