Where to Cool Off This Summer in Clackamas County & the North Willamette Valley

When the sun's blazing and your kids (or you) are getting antsy, there’s nothing better than knowing exactly where to go to cool off. Whether you’re looking for a shaded splash pad, a swimming hole in the woods, or a peaceful place to paddle, I’ve rounded up the best water spots across the area I call home.

Here’s your hyper-local guide to staying cool this summer in Canby, Silverton, Oregon City, Molalla, Wilsonville, and beyond

Molalla River Corridor – Molalla

This one’s for the nature lovers. With shady trees, swimming holes, and the occasional rope swing, the Molalla River Corridor is a peaceful place to unplug and splash around. It’s popular, so arrive early for the best spots.

Tip: Bring water shoes—it’s rocky in some spots, but worth it.

High Rocks Park – Oregon City

A longtime local favorite for cliff jumping and sunbathing along the Clackamas River. It’s energetic and a little wild, so be safe and respectful if you visit. Not ideal for little kids, but iconic for teens and adults who want a more adventurous water day.

Know before you go: Fast water and slippery rocks mean extra caution is a must.

Canby Swim Center – Canby

Want something consistent, safe, and indoors? The Canby Swim Center has you covered with public swim times and lessons for all ages. It’s not glamorous—but it’s reliable, clean, and perfect on those days when the weather can’t make up its mind.

Bonus: Great for lap swimmers too.

Memorial Park Splash Pad – Wilsonville

A parent’s dream: plenty of space, a shady playground, trails to walk, and a big splash pad for cooling off on a hot day. This park gets busy in the summer for good reason—it’s got everything in one place.

Local tip: Pack lunch and stay a while.

Centennial Park – Woodburn

Woodburn’s go-to for all things outdoors. The splash pad is the main attraction, but kids can also enjoy the skate park, open fields, and wide walkways. Plenty of space to spread out a picnic blanket and relax.

Feels like: Community in motion.

Silverton Reservoir – Silverton

One of the most peaceful spots on this list. The reservoir is a favorite for kayaking, paddleboarding, and swimming. With its tree-lined shores and light traffic, it’s a hidden gem for a quiet summer escape.

Perfect for: Couples, solo outings, or calm family time

Cool Places to Live, Too

One of the best things about living in the North Willamette Valley is access to nature—and that includes water. Whether you want the sound of a creek nearby, walkability to a splash pad, or a place to take your paddleboard after work, these communities make it easy to feel close to what matters.

If you’re dreaming of putting down roots near peace, play, and a slower summer rhythm—I’d love to help you find your place here.
