Best Local Trails & Walks in Clackamas County & the North Willamette Valley
Need a reset that doesn’t require a weekend getaway? You’re in luck. Some of the best trails in Oregon are right here in our backyard—and they’re not just for seasoned hikers. Whether you’re after a peaceful morning walk, wildflower spotting, or a shaded spot to stretch your legs, this region delivers.
Here are some of my favorite spots for a nature break—no long drive required.
Canemah Bluff Nature Park – Oregon City
Tucked above town, Canemah Bluff feels like a secret garden with river views. You’ll find easy, well-maintained trails, beautiful wildflowers in the spring, and quiet corners to sit and reflect.
Why go: Peaceful, uncrowded, and rich with native plants
Perfect for: Solo walks, casual photos, or a peaceful hour with your thoughts
Molalla River State Park – Canby
This is one of those rare spots that’s always peaceful. The flat paths wind alongside the Molalla and Willamette Rivers, and the birdwatching is surprisingly good. It’s dog-friendly too, so bring your furry friend.
Why go: No elevation, no stress—just nature
Perfect for: Family walks, light biking, or lazy afternoons
Silver Falls State Park – Silverton
This one’s the showstopper. Whether you commit to the full Trail of Ten Falls or just stroll a short loop, you’ll be treated to some of the most iconic scenery in the state. Pack your camera—this one’s worth the extra drive.
Why go: Waterfalls. Plural. And the air smells like pine and magic.
Perfect for: Day trips, visitors, or refreshing your soul
Boones Ferry Trail – Wilsonville
A short, interpretive trail that weaves through trees and history. It’s shaded, quiet, and runs near the river—great for an after-work walk or a low-effort weekend recharge.
Why go: Quick but meaningful
Perfect for: Kids, history buffs, or anyone short on time
Champoeg State Heritage Area – Near St. Paul
Wide trails, open fields, and river views make this a fantastic spot for a longer outing. And yes—you can walk to the historic Butteville Store for homemade ice cream and a step back in time.
Why go: A full experience: history, nature, and a treat
Perfect for: Dates, families, or relaxed Saturday exploring
